When you think of nature writing you imagine a book describing a remote stretch of the Tasmanian forest or the solo trek an adventurous author takes up a mountain in Nepal.
Kyo writes about nature, but for her nature is the humble suburban streets and parks around her home in Toronto.
For her new book Birds, Art, Life, Death: A Fieldguide to the small and significant, (Harper Collins) Kyo spent a year learning to look with new eyes at what was all around her, and not just nature, but her marriage, her children and her own story.
Recorded at the 2017 Brisbane Writers Festival, Kyo and Sarah Kanowski talk about Kyo's story.
